Boyd Veal, Town Manager
Town of Signal Mountain
5/14/2020
Dear Boyd,
The SME Preservation Fund board members have a proposal for your consideration.
COVID-19 social distancing requirements will make it difficult to return to business as usual during the 2020/2021 budget year. We would like the Town to consider a phased reopening that factors in a reduction in program generated income, while reducing and redirecting overall expenses.
In partnership with the Town, we’d like to continue our focus on needed repairs and improvements to the building. The goal being to have a fully functioning HVAC in every room by this time next year. We believe this can be done at a reduced cost to the Town. [See Proposed Budget Below.]
SMEPF donors have invested over $248,000 in building repairs and improvements over the last two years. [See MACC Improvements Below.] Our board members are committed to continuing to work over the next year to ensure recent improvements are maintained and the final goal is reached.
Our hope is that next year things will be back to normal, or ready for a new normal. In the interim, and in light of the current situation, SMEPF seeks to enter into this agreement with the Town for a period of one year.
The SME Preservation Fund is willing to:
Organize volunteers to staff the MACC over the next year.
Continue to fundraise and make needed improvements to the building.
We would like the Town to:
Reallocate MACC expense categories to focus on building improvements in coordination with SMEPF.
Continue maintenance of the building and grounds.
Please let me know if you would like to discuss this further.
Respectfully,
Angie Landrum, President
SME Preservation Fund
